For those pro to the territorial use of the Karelian Bear Dog.

Need clarification? Well the Karelian Bear Dog is a dog bread to hunt and fight large animals, such as bears. These dogs can actually be trained to teach wild animals, like cougars, bears, their territories, which will stop them from entering public places(camp grounds, towns, and so on...). Unfortunately in some places they are illegal for these uses, saying that they will torment the animals by chasing them...even though hunters are allowed to use dogs to hunt and kill game. When a wild animal enters pubic places too many times and gets used to humans, many times they have to be shot and killed.

:) Aww, this is great - My grandma had a Karelian beardog and when I was little her next dog was a mixed race with this same breed and a good babysitter for me ^^ keeping me from running away from the yard. Awesome dogs, but not exsactly one to have just as a pet in a family.

Maybe the laws and regulations are a bit odd and surely limit the use of our dogs here in Scandinavia for useful purposes, but as with these dogs and wild animal teaching, it's about the law against having our dogs running loose all other times except when the dog is hunting.

Thanks for the comment! ^_^

Yep, that makes sense. I just wonder why you can not use the dogs to teach a bear its territory, but you can use it to kill the bear. It is a strange world we live in.
